The Federal Road Safety Commission is a government-owned agency whose major or primary function is to ensure that there is free-flowing traffic on all highways in the country.:
It is a Para-military agency that direct and controls all road users on how best to utilize the highways in the country. The commission also has the legal authority to arrest and punish road users who fail to adhere to traffic rules and regulations.
Created in February 1988, the agency has been one of the most active paramilitaries in the country as they continue to ensure that there are little or no cases of accidents or casualties on federal and state roads.
In February 1988, the Federal Government created the Federal Road Safety Commission through Decree No. 45 of 1988 as amended by Decree 35 of 1992 referred to in the statute books as the FRSC Act cap 141 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN).
Passed by the National Assembly as Federal Road Safety Commission (establishment) Act 2007. The functions of the Commission generally relates to:
Making the highway safe for motorists and other road users.
Recommending works and devices designed to eliminate or minimize accidents on the highways and advising the Federal and State Governments including the Federal Capital Territory Administration and relevant governmental agencies on the localities where such works and devices are required, and
Educating motorists and members of the public on the importance of discipline on the highway.

In exercise of the functions, members of the Commission shall have the power to arrest and prosecute persons reasonably suspected of having committed any traffic offence.
According to the commission’s official website, https://frsc.gov.ng/zonal-commands/ there are 12 FRSC zonal headquarters across the country. The zonal headquarters were initially five in its first year of establishment.

It is important you know that a member of the Federal Road Safety Corp who Joins the agency with a secondary certificate earns nothing less than N40, 000 per month. As a graduate of any higher institution, you’re entitled to enjoy nothing less than N100, 000 as your monthly salary while some incentives are additional advantages. High-ranked officers earn monthly salary that ranges from N250, 000 and above.

If Nigeria must be free from road accidents, then road users must know all traffic rules and regulations. FRSC regularly organize interactive workshops where drivers and other road users are lectured on how to behave while driving. The agency welcome and provides answers to all questions from participants.
It Provides topnotch Rescue Services Should There Be Emergency Cases
FRSC has a rescue team whose major duty is provide quick help to victim of road accidents or any road-related emergency. In case you find yourself in any emergency while driving, you can reach out to the FRSC for quick help by dialing 122.
Driving your car without an up-to-date or substantial driving license in Nigeria is a crime. Hence, the commission are responsible for the design and the issuance of all important driving documents to interested drivers/car owners.
As much as it’s the function of the government to ensure that good roads are provided in the country, one of FRSC’s functions is to make sure that the roads are maximally maintained by users. The commission engages in regular cleaning of highways, amends pot-holes and clear trashes that could cause accidents.
