Birth and Early Life

The writer was born and christened Linda Ifeoma Ikeji on the 19th of September 1980. And was raised by catholic parents in Imo state, Nigeria. She began writing fictional stories at the age of 10. She is the second child out of seven children. Her parents hail from Nkwerre local government area in the southeastern state of Imo, Nigeria. She was born and raised by average Nigerian parents with a general fair share of financial struggles. She finished secondary school at 19 and proceeded to get a degree in Mass communication as she was intensely interested in the news and interviews but unfortunately got her degree in English at the University of Lagos, Yaba, Lagos State. She had begun working at the age of 17, ranging from modelling to bartending to ushering to waitressing. She graduated in 2004.

Linda Ikeji has a son, Jayce. She is not married to the boy’s father, Sholaye Jeremi and she’s stated that they are not compatible. She also took time to explain why she and Sholaye Jeremi cannot work and also listed on her blog all the qualities she would want from her dream man. For instance, he has to have respect for women, willing to support her work and has a job.

Career

In 2006, Linda started blogging as a hobby. The internet was not as exuberant as it is now during that time. She began blogging actively in 2007 using the subdomain lindaikeji.blogspot.com. She later changed the domain to www.lindaikejisblog.com. Linda Ikeji blog has become well-known all around Africa. The blogging platform first began as a gossip blog which was then the first of its kind in Nigeria. “LIB” as it is famously called, has grown over several years and has become the major piece in entertainment. They cover news and events happening in and around Africa and even beyond. It also covers lifestyle and fashion stories. As at today, there is so much traffic on the site as millions of people visit the site daily.

According to Alexa, the blog https://www.lindaikejisblog.com/ is ranked 25th in Nigeria and 3,738th in the world at present. On the 5th day of May 2010, Linda Ikeji launched her first book “It takes you – A book of Inspiration”. The ceremony was held at Genesis Deluxe Cinema, Lekki. The book contains 30 inspirational and life-changing articles and is a worthy writ.

On the 22nd day of August 2016, Linda Ikeji created the online TV network, Linda Ikeji TV alongside other brands she was establishing. Linda Ikeji TV airs a diverse array of programs ranging from talk shows, TV series, reality shows, movies and lots more. The network also produces and buys some of its content. She also endeavored into online radio broadcasting with the radio programs broadcasted live on the Linda Ikeji TV.

She also delved into the music industry by opening a music platform but it, unfortunately, became dormant three months later. The platform was named Linda Ikeji Music and was launched on November 26, 2016. She started a social networking platform with the domain name LindaIkejiSocial.com.

Linda Ikeji also runs a non-profit project titled “I’d rather be self-made; No thanks”. During an interview with Hip-tv she stated “that through the project, she assists young girls aged 16–25 who have great business ideas and are willing to venture into entrepreneurship” and gave out the sum of NGN10,000,000 in Phase 1 of the project.

In August 2012, Forbes Africa decided to celebrate African women in that month’s issue. Forbes Africa profiled Africa’s 20 Most Prominent Women and they featured profiles on two Nigerian women: Linda Ikeji, and Chibundu Onuzo. On the 8th of August 2018, Linda Ikeji was among the noteworthy and remarkable personalities that received an honorary doctorate from the Trinity International University in Georgia for her notable and excellent work in Business and Media in Africa with the likes of Steve Egboro, Nigerian filmmaker and event manager, Chairman Daily Times Newspaper, Fidelis Anosike, Obeahon Ohiwerei, GMD/ CEO of Keystone Bank Limited, the renowned lawyer Mike Ozekhome and few others.

The Linda Ikeji social media platform was launched on the 1st of November 2016 with the domain name lindaikejisocial.com. She started the platform with the intention of combining blogging with social media. Six days after the launch, 86,000 accounts were live on the platform.

Linda Ikeji TV

The TV Network was launched on June 9th 2018. LiTV is a home of entertainment where different categories of programs are streamed live. The platform has six categories; TV Shows, Reality Shows, TV Series, Movies, Original and Live. Subscribers are expected to pay a monthly fee to gain access to the variety of programs.

Online Radio Station

Linda Ikeji is a multitalented young lady with so much gut. She keeps exploring different media Industry and gets her spice of cake in each of them. It’s no surprise that she also operates an online radio broadcast from Linda Ikeji media office. Most of the programs are streamed live on Linda Ikeji TV.

Her Book

Linda has five sisters and a brother. They are Vera, Sandra, Laura, Peks, Benita, and Edna.

Controversies

Linda Ikeji had had several controversies in the past like; the #SaveMayowa Campaign and also about celebrities such as Funke Akindele, Richard Mofe Damijo, Djimon Honsou, Wizkid and Tonto Dikeh. She had also made controversial publications about Doyin Okupe the politician. He described the publications as defamatory and untrue.

Linda Ikeji’s blog website was shut down on the 8th day of October 2014. It was however restored on the 10th day of October 2014 at midnight by Google. The reasons for the actions was not disclosed. Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Google’s West Africa spokesperson, said: “We take violations of policies very seriously as such activities diminish the experience for our users. When we are notified of the existence of content that may violate our Terms of Service, we act quickly to review it and determine whether it actually violates our policies. If we determine that it does, we remove it immediately.”

In 2018, the Online Editor for the Punch newspaper, John Abayomi, threatened to file a lawsuit against Linda Ikeji. The reason was for a false story published about him being the owner of instablog9ja. Abayomi made a statement through his lawyer, Falana and Falana’s Chambers, on the publication whose headline was LIB Exclusive: ‘meet the owner of instablog9ja-John Abayomi’. He also said that the publication put his life and that of his family in danger.

Linda Ikeji has always been an advocate of celibacy so it was a rude shock when she took to her Instagram page in March 2018 to announce her pregnancy without previous news of engagement or marriage. She welcomed her son, Jayce on the 17th of September, 2018 in the Atlanta United States.

Philanthropy/Achievements

Linda Ikeji engages in a lot of philanthropic activities. She most notably takes joy from supporting young girls between the ages of 18 and 26 who have great business ideas and are willing to venture into entrepreneurship. Through her project themed; “I’d rather be self-made, No, thanks” Linda given out a total sum of N10,000,000 to different girls to start up their projects.

She has also groomed her siblings in entrepreneurship. In fact, one of her siblings, Laura, now has a fashion blog called heylauraikeji.blogspot.com.
