Tuks Senganga is one of such artists who excels at performing in his local language whilst excelling at it. He is a Motswako rapper that performs mainly in ethnic language, predominantly Setswana. Motswako was a word given to the art of weaving stories in Setswana and English language.

Tuks Senganga was born on the 2nd of May 1981. His original name is Tumelo Mathews Kepadisa but goes by Tuks Senganga for his stage name. He was born in Mafikeng, which is the former homeland of the Bophuthatswana.

Tuks Senganga Early life And Education Background

Tumelo Mathews Kepadisa also known as Tuks Senganga grew up in his hometown in Bophutatswana. He began writing poetry at the age of twelve. He wrote most of his experiences during the apartheid regime in South Africa. While in high school, he began to venture into hip-hop. This happened at a period when hip-hop was still a taboo in South Africa.

Tuks Sengange Music Career

At the point when the Motswako movement was at its peak, Tuks Senganga released his classic debut album titled Mafoko A Me (My Words). This happened in the year 2005. Before the album was released, there was a lot of anticipation and received major reviews.

The supporting singles were also on high rotation on all national radio stations in South Africa. It was as a result of the album, Mafoko A Me that Tumelo Mathews Kepadisa won his first South African Music Awards prize for Best Hip Hop Album.

In the following year 2006, Tuks Senganga released another album, MC Prayer which was a sophomore. He received a lot of positive reviews and critics for the production style and sound quality. The critics noted that it surpassed that of Mafoko A Me. There was a frenzy for his lead single Monate Thwa.

It made the album sell out very quickly. MC Prayer hit a gold certification just four months after it’s release and was nominated under the category of Best Hip Hop album at the South African Music Awards. The album also won Metro FM Award and cemented him as a top and respected hip-hop lyricist and artist.

The next album Tumelo Mathews Kepadisa alias Tuks Seganga released was Monopoly. The album release came after his two-year break from the music industry. Monopoly was released in the year 2008 and the inspiration came from different videos and about conspiracy theories.

In his music, he said, “There is something wrong with the world and the way that people are controlled by the media, by music, belief systems and by religion”, he adds “this album is ear-friendly, with a pinch of the truth. It’s not about the industry. I’m taking it a step further. I’m talking about the faces behind the industry”.

The album was very thought stimulating and provoked introspection amongst citizens of South Africa. Monopoly bagged Tuks Seganga several awards, some of which are Metro FM Music Award for Best Hip Hop Album, Hype Magazine Hip Hop Awards for Best Album and Hype Magazine Hip Hop Awards for Best Solo Artist.

In the year 2010, Tuks Seganga released another album Tshwanelo. The lead single also titled Tshwanelo, topped music charts across South Africa. One of the singles in the album Let Me Live, found its way into the hearts of gospel music-loving South Africans. The album Tshwanelo was nominated for the 17th edition of South African Music Awards and Metro FM awards all in 2011.

Tumelo Mathews Kepadisa, went on to release another hot album titled Footprints in the year 2012. Footprints showcased the ” got stuff” that Tuks Seganga is. He designed the graphics for the album cover sleeve. He is known to be not just a singer, songwriter and lyricist, but is also an artist and graphics designer with an eye for detail.

The album’s lead single, Bona Fela, was used as the soundtrack to a hit South African TV drama series titled Skeem Saam that was released on South African TV screens in October 2011. The album Footprints was a testament to the growth and refinement that Tuks Seganga has attained. It cemented his position as a force to be reckoned with in the South African music industry.

Four years later, precisely in 2016, Tumelo Mathews Kepadisa went ahead to release another “banging” album. The title was Botshe Botshe and was an album of 19 tracks.

Other involvements

During the two year break taken by Tumelo Mathews Kepadisa, alias Tuks Seganga, between 2006 and 2008, he worked on his music label and several other businesses.

His record label, June/July Productions was established in the year 2004. It has grown to encompass artist and Events Management, communications, Publishing and a music production house. This Seganga released his album Monopoly, under June/July Productions, in partnership with EMI records.
