
Bad breath is one troubling condition that borders many today in the society. This becomes even more painful and disheartening when such causes of bad breath is not known.
A lot of people have always thought of possible things that can cause this bad breath, which is also known as Halitosis. It has caused many a very serious embarrassment and worry – such a stigma!.
In fact, bad breath is capable of taking away one’s confidence, it has deprived many the ground of expressing themselves while in public or talking with the next person.
Although this condition affects about 35% of people round the globe, and as saddening as this could be, bad breath is relatively easy to remedy especially when the causes such bad breath is determined.
Bad breath is a common condition that can cause psychological distress and anyone can suffer from bad breath on regular basis.

Here are the common causes of bad breath which you should know;
1. Spices: Certain spices produce compounds which eventually contribute to smelly breath and sweat.
2. Garlic and onions: They create volatile sulphide compounds, which give off rotten egg odor.
3. Coffee: It contains acids that decrease oxygenation of the mouth which in turn increase bacteria production.
4. Smoking: Smoking deteriorates the gums causing a disease called, periodontists, which causes very bad breath, also, the smoke itself smell awful. When you inhale it into your body your mouth holds the smell, giving you bad breath.
5. Alcohol: Alcohol dries the mouth, decrease saliva and allows bacteria to spread in your mouth.
6. Dairy and milk products: Protein is a source of bad breath/ bacteria. Also it thickens nasal mucous, making it harder to clear away.
7. Poor oral hygiene: Poor tooth brushing techniques, irregular tooth brushing and dental neglect will all bacteria to grow faster in your mouth, causing mouth odor.
8. Medications and medical conditions: If you think your medication or a medical condition (example, diabetes) could be causing you bad breath, contact your doctor or dentist for an examination.
9. Fizzy drinks: The carbon di oxides in fizzy drinks is acidic and strong enough to damage the surface layers of the teeth causing tooth decay and a foul smell in the oral cavity.
10. Sugar: Bacteria feed on sugar in your mouth and produce strong acids leading to tooth decay resulting in a build-up of food debris and bad odor.
