Samford Football To Open Spring Practice Monday
Samford Football To Open Spring Practice Monday – The Samford football team will open spring practice Monday afternoon, March 27, at Seibert Stadium.
The Bulldogs will kick the spring off with a workout in shorts and helmets at 4 p.m. Monday. The team will practice in full pads on April 7 at 6 a.m., and again in the final practice of the spring on April 14 at 6 a.m.
Samford returns five starters on offense and seven starters on defense from the 2016 squad. The offensive returning starters are led by 2016 Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Year quarterback Devlin Hodges. On defense, first team All-SoCon selections linebacker Shaheed Salmon, defensive lineman Ahmad Gooden and defensive back Omari Williams lead the way.
The 2017 season will be the third for head coach Chris Hatcher and his staff. Last season, the Bulldogs posted their school-record sixth-straight winning season, going 7-5 overall and 5-3 in Southern Conference play. The team earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division I-FCS Playoffs for the second time in the last four years.
Samford kicks off the 2017 season on Aug. 31, when the Bulldogs host Kennesaw State. Season tickets will go on sale July 1, and fans can purchase tickets at that time at www.samfordsports.com/tickets.
