Latest Update on Google TV: A new profile can be created which has a kid-friendly, customizable background theme and filters apps based on the parent’s choice. During setup, Google even recommends a list of apps that are considered kid-friendly, but any app, such as Disney+, can easily be enabled.
Kids Profiles on Google TV are accessed by navigating to and clicking on the user’s normal profile icon, then switching to the Kids Profile. During initial creation, you’ll have the option to assign your child’s name, age, and link a Google account if the child has one already.
After that basic setup is done, you can pick apps to show on the filtered home screen and assign a screen time limit, rating limits for content, set up YouTube Kids, adjust the theme, and also lock the profile so children can’t just jump back to their parent’s profile.
Does Google TV have multiple profiles?
Notably, we noticed a lot of performance issues and bugs while setting up Kids Profiles on our Chromecast with Google TV. At one point, we had to restart the process almost entirely but it eventually worked out.
A server-side update to the Google TV launcher is enabling support for Kids Profiles, though notably only in the United States as was originally announced.
You might see a notification about the feature, as our friends at Android Police noticed, but you can also force stop the “LauncherX” app from the Settings menu. In a quick test, this worked almost immediately for us.
How do you set up Google TV for kids?
Set up a kids profile with the following steps;
- From the Google TV home screen, in the top right, go to the profile icon and select your profile.
- Under “Who’s watching,” select Add a kid. Get started.
- Select an option
- Choose the apps you want to include on the kid’s home screen.
- To set up parental controls, follow the on-screen instructions.
Does Google have kid accounts?
You can create a Google Account for your child under 13 (or the applicable age in your country), and manage it using Family Link.
With Google Accounts, children get access to Google products like Search, Chrome, and Gmail, and you can set up basic digital ground rules to supervise them.

Google TV is all about the ability to sift through the huge number of TV shows and movies available on various streaming services.
Profiles on Google TV, when they arrive, will enable multiple users to have accounts on the same device (i.e. Chromecast, Sony Bravia, TCL) with different home screen layouts for each user.

Screen time limits are also built into this profile, letting a parent say how much time each kid gets; there’s also a “bedtime” schedule to wind things down, not unlike the digital well-being features found on most smartphones these days. You can also sync these screen time limits across other Google devices like a Chromebook or Android phone.
These new features will be available on Google TV for users in the US over the next month; they’ll be available “globally” over the next couple of months.
